Have you ever shopped with a world-renowned Israeli chef? It is an experience I hope you get to enjoy someday. It was better for me than going to an amusement park. He was even teaching the produce people about the foods.
As I shopped with Chef Moshe at Wegmans here in Richmond, I thought we would never get out of the store.
Every food had a story, and every food had to be deeply smelled and
touched.
Our bags were filled with leaves and stems flowing out of the top. We left the store with lots of onions, leeks, lots of garlic and more herbs. No dish we made was without onions. And no dish was without turmeric - but I'll save the turmeric story for a later email.
Yet, we know onions add incredible flavor - but do you have any idea why the Israelites couldn’t stop talking about leeks and onions in the wilderness?
Actually, these
foods were part of their cooking in Egypt. It was another element they were downcast about leaving.🤔 Even though God provided manna and quail 'without labor,' they complained about missing Egypt. Interestingly, these foods weren’t previously known in Canaan.
Now don't think that manna was bland - they were finding herbs in the area around them and adding it to the 'bread', so they still had flavor, yet they were craving 'Egypt'.
Today we know - these foods
are incredibly nutritious.
These foods are cell-transforming for:
- metabolism improved
- liver clean up
- kidney health
- skin glowing
- and more...
