If I could choose a cooking demonstration in a class for you to taste the difference - there are three options I would do. The first is to cook grits from freshly milled corn, compared with Bob's Red Mill and then the store bought box. Actually, I did this in the classes I was teaching and without labels- everyone exclaimed how the freshly milled
corn cooked into grits was amazingly better tasting. They even said the box grits tasted like cardboard in comparison.
The second would be to make oatmeal cookies from three different oats: freshly flaked, old fashoined and then steel cut. Again, the freshly flaked always wins for flavor and satisfying texture.
Now the third, is cornbread. This is not surprising and yet, so confirming how God's foods taste totally different when eaten from freshly milled grains. It is
eye-opening to discover how we are being fed tasteless fake food and yet we have access to such delicious foods and healing mixed together.
I encourage you to try this in your next class or family get together. I really wanted to do this at the last retreat, but time did not allow it. Perhaps, we could do this at your next retreat!
